I learned how to carve hat blocks from master milliner Jan Wutkowski. The blocked hat is pinched and folded to create an endless variety of hat shapes. (See Quarantine Cocktail and Pink Eclipse.) This first hat used a olive/gold rabbit fur felt hood which was pinched like a dumpling and adorned with a crocheted and felted wool flower. This hat block can be used in many colors of felt and straw.
